Jones Bros named in Wales Fast Growth 50 and in a UK top 1,000 businesses listing

Leading civil engineering firm Jones Bros has been named one of the 50 fastest growing firms in Wales.

The Ruthin-based company features in the newly-released 2011 Wales Fast Growth 50.
The list has become firmly established as one of the primary barometers of entrepreneurship in the Welsh economy.

The accolade comes just days after the family-run firm featured in the Sunday Telegraph as one of Britain’s brightest top 1,000 businesses.

The Telegraph listing was compiled in conjunction with innovation agency NESTA and business information specialist Dun & Bradstreet.

It focuses on companies and partnerships with sales of between £5m and £500m and featured Jones Bros in its ‘infrastructure, construction, energy and transport’ category.
Managing director Huw Jones said: “We are very pleased to receive such acknowledgement from these two heavyweight organisations.

“This recognition will help to strengthen our objective to become one of the UK’s leading civil engineering firms, particularly in the renewable energy sector.

“None of our successes is ever possible without the support of our loyal and hardworking workforce and I thank every one of our employees for their contributions to the company.”
Despite the fact that the economic downturn has hit construction firms hard, Jones Bros is hopeful of winning further work in coming months to help it to maintain its current levels of activity.

Professor Dylan Jones-Evans, creator of the Wales Fast Growth 50 and Director of Enterprise at the University of Wales said: “I am delighted to see one of North Wales’ most successful construction companies on this year’s Fast Growth 50 list.

“Jones Bros is growing its reputation at the forefront of renewable energy projects and is already successfully competing with bigger household name companies to win major contracts. The passion of the founders to provide opportunities for young people will ensure that it continues to create jobs locally and maintains a home grown skilled workforce.”
Other milestones achieved recently have included the opening of a second office in Scotland.
It is the fourth regional office to be opened in 18 months and will support the company’s activities north of the border, which include construction of infrastructure for a number of wind farms.

Currently, the firm is about to start work on a wind farm at Lochluichart in the Highlands.
It is also working on a state-of-the-art wind farm in Millour Hill, North Ayrshire. The 18 megawatt (MW) facility is the first in the UK to benefit from new turbine technology developed by industry giant Siemens Renewables.

It recently completed the 60-turbine Crystal Rig wind farm in the Scottish borders – one of the largest in the UK – for Fred Olsen Renewables, and Tullo wind farm in Aberdeenshire, for Dutch multinational, Eneco.

Jones Bros has also opened an office in Swansea to help secure contracts in south Wales and south west England.

Most recently, it launched a base in Oxfordshire, after securing a £9m waste management contract there.

The company was recently short-listed in the construction industry ‘Oscars’, when it featured in the ‘Tomorrow’s Company’ category of the Construction News Awards.

Other recent accolades include awards from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE); the Institute of Directors; the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and a CEEQUAL Outstanding Achievement Award for work at Parc Cybi in Anglesey.
