Renewables and Energy

A sustainable future

Having established techniques for constructing forestry access tracks in mid-Wales during the 1970s, Jones Bros was in an ideal position to start providing balance of plant services for wind farm developers and turbine manufacturers.

We’ve amassed a great deal of experience in managing the complex logistics of working over large expanses in remote areas. Our team understands the special requirements of projects involving the construction of access roads to accommodate abnormal loads, turbine foundations, substation buildings and electrical infrastructure.

Our biggest wind farm contract to date involved 60 turbines (140 MW). Our on-site batching plant ensured maximum flexibility and saved many heavy vehicle journeys. We also constructed a £1m eco-control centre at the site. This entire contract was successfully completed within schedule despite delays caused by the worst winter in half a century.

Our expertise is such that we can readily deliver requirements, such as piling of turbine bases, especially challenging in a harsh environment.

We also provide onshore infrastructure to the offshore renewables industry. An example is a £2m brief to carry out enabling and preparation works for a 400 KV substation for a large offshore wind farm.

With Jones Bros in charge of your project, you can be confident that you have an experienced contractor that provides the full balance of plant contract services.

Jones Bros also has a long and varied history of working in the energy sector – from provision of power station PFA storage facilities and coal handling slab works to the design and construction of a state-of-the-art eco visitor centre.
