Jones Bros celebrates its latest graduates

TWO employees with Ruthin based Jones Bros have graduated as civil construction engineers.
Sponsored by the civil engineering company, Dafydd Ellis, 25, from Bala and Russell Jones, 21, from Prestatyn, were awarded their higher national certificate qualifications at a graduation ceremony in Wrexham. As trainees with Jones Bros, both men attended Glyndwr University (formerly NEWI) one day a week for four years. Russell, a former pupil at Prestatyn High School, said: “I am delighted to have been given an traineeship with Jones Bros.

“I joined the company when I was 17. It has given me a fantastic career opportunity as a civil engineer. Jones Bros really know how to support youngsters and encourages them to pursue training courses to further their knowledge and skill.

“I am now a qualified construction engineer and am looking at converting the award into a full blown degree.”

A family-owned company, Jones Bros employs 240 and carries out civil engineering contracts across the UK. The company enjoys a good reputation for training and is committed to training and an apprenticeship programme, providing the highest level training at nationally recognised centres.

Fellow graduate, Dafydd, a former pupil of Ysgol Berwyn in Bala, said: “Apprenticeships are an excellent way of being paid to gain practical experience and a qualification.

“I now work on a wide range of projects for Jones Bros, including coastal reclamation and landfill developments.”

Jones Bros specialisms include highways, business park developments, waste management and land remediation, wind farms, coastal protection and marine infrastructure.
Founded in the 1950s Jones Bros has grown rapidly in the last decade. Turnover has increased from £12m in 2000 to £30m in 2007-08 and is expected to be greater next year.
