Jones Bros is celebrating the marathon efforts of one of its longest-serving members of staff.
Phil Porter has collected a bumper £2,300 for the Spinal Injuries Association after running in the 2008 London Marathon.

Phil, who has worked as a fitter for Jones Bros for 21 years, had never before run a marathon.
“I’d always been a rugby player, but I enjoyed this tremendously. I think I’m addicted now!” said Phil, who has lined himself up for two more stamina-sapping events later this year.



He’ll be competing in the Birmingham half marathon in October and before that he’ll take part in a tough triathlon challenge in September, involving endurance swimming, cycling and running.
Phil, who lost two stones in the build up to the London marathon, has a demanding training schedule to maintain fitness levels for the autumn.

“It’s tough but I’m enjoying it and it gives me a goal to work for. The swimming is proving the hardest as I’ve never done much competitive swimming, but it’ll be worth it in the end,” said Phil, 43, who lives in Tremeirchion.

He has applied to enter the London Marathon next year, with the aim of raising money for a charity local to Ruthin and Denbigh.
