Kind-hearted Jones Bros workers raise thousands for
hospital unit

Workers at family-run civil engineering firm Jones Bros who embarked on two ambitious fund-raising challenges will hand over £4,000 to a hospital unit that provided life-saving treatment to a young colleague

One group of workers scaled Snowdon, whilst their colleagues at the Ruthin-based company cycled 170 miles west to east across England along a newly-opened cycle route.

The challenges were in aid of Wrexham Maelor Hospital where young engineer Rhys Williams underwent a kidney transplant last year. His new kidney was donated by his mum Judith.

Rhys, 25, joined Iona Jones, Sharon Lewis and Huw Issac to tackle Snowdon, while Ruth Jones and Mike O’Connor joined friends to embark on a charity cycle along the 'Way of the Roses' stretching from Morecambe in Lancashire to Bridlington on Yorkshire’s North Sea coast.

The workers managed to raise £2,000 in sponsorship, whilst Jones Bros agreed to match the funds raised, making a total of £4,000.

Ruth Jones, commercial manager at Jones Bros Civil Engineering, said: "We are really delighted to be able to present these funds to Wrexham Maelor's renal unit."

"The unit took great care of our colleague, Rhys, when he underwent dialysis there last year. He has made such a good recovery that he was able to take part in the walk up Snowdon."
