Jones Bros creates 50 jobs in North Wales

North Wales civil engineering firm Jones Bros is looking to boost its workforce, creating around 50 jobs for local people across the region.

The news comes after two major contract wins for the Ruthin-based firm – the construction of the Porthmadog by-pass, in partnership with Balfour Beatty, and Tywyn Coastal Defence Scheme.

The firm is also currently busy carrying out highways work across the region, as part of a four-year framework contract for the North Wales Trunk Road Agency.

The family-run company will recruit employees to cover these major contracts. The vacant posts range from site agents and works managers, to machine operators, ground workers and drain layers.

Managing director Huw Jones said: “2010 is proving for to be a strong year for Jones Bros. We have increased our workload in our home territory of North Wales.

“We believe strongly in recruiting in the locality of specific civil engineering contracts, so local people benefit from the work in their area. We look forward to receiving applications from suitable candidates living in north west Wales, as well as from people further afield.

“Whilst we have to select the best candidates for the job based on skills, experience and other criteria, not where they live, we are publicising the vacancies widely in the local area, to ensure everyone who may be interested gets to hear about them.

“We know from the high level of inquiries received so far that there are a lot of skilled workers locally looking for new opportunities.”

The £34.4m Porthmadog bypass contract was awarded jointly to Jones Bros and Balfour Beatty plc. Work is expected to take two years.

The new section of the A487 is expected to improve journey times, ease congestion and significantly improve environmental conditions within Porthmadog, Tremadog and Minffordd.
In Tywyn, the £6m coastal defence scheme is expected to last until November. Work will include a rock armour breakwater, rock groynes and replacement of the groyne field.

Under the North Wales Trunk Road Agency framework, Jones Bros is undertaking a spectrum of projects varying in cost from £100,000 to £2m in Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham and Anglesey.
